Tributes

Throughout his career, Rolando Saad has given several concerts in memory of some of the great composers and musicians he most admires:

Maria_luisa_anido  Andres Segovia

In 1987 he offered a tribute to Maria Luisa Anido in Milan, the grande dame of the guitar world and his teacher. Rolando Saad and Maria Luisa Anido met for the first time in 1980 in Barcelona. She showed him how to find his own way of interpreting Spanish music.

One of the inspirations of Rolando Saad was Francisco Tárrega in whose school he was formed. He learned his technique of playing with short nails, and especially his love for a humble instrument, in his opinion.  In 1988 he had the opportunity to honor the composer from Castellón with a concert in his hometown, Villarreal de los Infantes. There he played in front of Tarrega’s grave his famous work Capricho Árabe In the 100th anniversary of Andrés Segovia, in 1993, Saad participated in the tribute concerts to honor the guitarist, celebrated in Linares, his hometown, Leon and Jaen. Thanks to Andrés Segovia the guitar became a concert instrument par excellence.

The most intense moment in the career of Rolando Saad was in 1988, when he had the opportunity to meet Joaquin Rodrigo. In that year he made the tribute concert at the Gran Teatro de Aranjuez, with the composer himself among the audience, which was long-praised.

During 1989 he went on  three tours that comprised 100 concerts throughout the Spanish terrotory dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Concierto de AranjuezIn the year 2000, in order to commemorate the first anniversary of Rodrigo’s death, Saad made a concert tour to the main Spanish cities (Madrid, Barcelona, Granada, Bilbao, Jaen, Zaragoza, Pamplona, Tarragona and San Sebastián, among others), performing the Concierto de  Aranjuez. That tour would be the springboard that five years later would launch him to the stages of the most famous concert halls in Europe. In 2009 went on tour dedicated to the 10th anniversary of Rodrigo's death. And in 2015, he made a grand tour of some of the major European halls, to mark the 75th anniversary of the Concierto de Aranjuez.

Perhaps the greatest tribute to the genius of the Spanish music and guitar created by Rolando Saad is the CD entitled A Celebration of the Spanish Guitar, recorded in 2007 with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The album was successfully presented to the audiences of the main concert halls in Europe, including London's Barbican Hall.
